Runaway Shopping Cart

Yesterday we had to go to the grocery store.  As we left the store I had one hand on Rooster and one hand on the shopping cart.  Redbird was walking close to me.  I parked the shopping cart against the back of the car.  It was cold and windy so I was trying to quickly get the kids in the car.  Redbird jumped right in, got in her seat and kicked her boots off.  I was struggling with Rooster.  He wouldn't sit down then he kept his foot in the door.   Finally, I got him buckled in and shut the door.  I lifted up and a lady yelled, "your cart's in the street".  I yelled back, "thank you" and turned to find it.  I had to run after it.  Thankfully another girl had already reached it and was bringing it back to me.  It was definitely in the street, but there were no cars around.  I thanked the girl and told how sweet she was for helping me.
I put my groceries in the car and then got in.  I realized that I had trouble in getting Rooster in because he was busy watching the runaway shopping cart.
Have a great day.

Remember to Look Up

Yesterday was a bit stressful.  The meltdowns started early in the morning which got us to a rocky start.  We recovered, or course but it took longer than usual.
In the afternoon I decided to get my photos on to the computer.  I hadn't unloaded any photos since before my old computer crashed in September.  The kids enjoyed looking at the photos and this one was one of the last on the camera.  When I saw it I cheered.  I remembered taking it because the sky looked so blue and beautiful that day.
Thank you, God for reminding me to look up.  You're so nice to me.
Have a great day.

A Small Miracle

Yesterday, I had to cut Rooster's hair. A job I always dread. I had to get it done because if I mess it up there will be enough time before the holidays for it to grow.
My step-dad always says, "the difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is 3 days."
I have been cutting Rooster's hair since he was 3 months old. He was born with 3 inches of hair that stood straight up, it was sooooo cute. Anyway during the haircut sessions we both end up crying, but yesterday went very well. He set for me, "like grandpa" he said, and for the first time in 7 years the little guy got a decent haircut.
He looks very grown up and has the attitude to go with it.
Before I became a mom I had many different jobs, one was a barber. I worked at the mall, "walk-ins welcome". Other stylists would give me the people that they didn't want to work on. One day I was cutting a boy's hair and his mom said, "he is doing good for you". I said, "yeah he's a good boy". Then she told me he was autistic. This was new to me so I researched and made sure that the next time I saw the little boy he would be even more comfortable. His mom brought him back again and again. He never spoke to me, but I spoke to him. I made sure that I looked directly at his eyes when I did. I had no idea how God was preparing me.
Anyway, I guess word got around and I started getting more customers like him. One day a very cute little boy with long blonde hair came in with his mom. He was adorable and smiled all the time. I started cutting his hair and his mom said very nonchalantly, "oh he doesn't have any ears". I checked and I said "oh he sure doesn't". Then she told me that they were going to get some new ears after a couple more heart surgeries. This little boy was born very premature and was dealing with a lot of medical issues, yet he was so happy. His mom called him, "my miracle baby". She loved him so much. I had no idea how God was preparing me.
Have a great day, we will.

Project Runway, My Escape

Do you ever need to get away from it all, yes of course you do. My escape is the show Project Runway. It's not really an escape because I'm still at home and my kids are still awake. They can be asleep by 8:00 pm every night except when Project Runway is on TV.
It has inspired me to start my sewing business again along with a couple of blogging women, Lindsey T Sews http://www.lindsaytsews.com/ and Meg at http://www.sewliberated.typepad.com/.
Lindsey works in NYC so she has access to the garment district. She has great posts and great links. Everything you wanted to know about the garment district in on her site.
Meg is a pattern designer, a Montessori teacher, author and a new mom. Her new book is also called "Sew Liberated".
Anyway, I love Project Runway, but it is very competitive which is probably why I'm on a farm in Oklahoma and not in NYC. I don't like competition. I would love to tell the contestants to just have a good time, enjoy the experience. God gave you unique gifts that only apply to you, therefore you have no competition. I'm not sure they would listen to me.
Go escape somewhere, if only in your mind.
